I haven't been making cakes that much, and nothing but small ones when I actually do. I had two opportunities the last year though to make and showcase some larger cakes for a of group of girls that are very special to me, the American Heritage Girls troop that I help to lead.
We hosted a Father Daughter Dance this time last year and I made my first big cake in a long time.
I also made a cake for our Court of Awards Ceremony. I wrote around the sides the American Heritage Girls Oath & Creed.
And it is for these girls that I have slowly been making baby steps back into cake decorating. Last night I spent the evening sharing my passion for this sweet art form, we just started working on our cake decorating badge. I got to have a little cake decorating demonstration and I will be leading the girls over the next few weeks to make a variety of yummy confections, including centerpiece cakes for our 2nd Annual Father Daughter Dance. They are not big cakes and I know no matter how they turned out they would be welcomed with much love and appreciation but it is in these cakes I am finding little glimmers of hope for my long lost talent.
